How do i change the joomla read more links

By default when you create a new Joomla! article for the front page or blog view and use the Read More option to split the article into two sections you will find the read more link includes the text " Read More" rather than the title of your article.

To help search engines like Google , Yahoo or Bing understand what the article is about plus improve the click through rate from both search engines and visitors we recommend you change the read more link so it matches the title of your article.

For example if you have created a great article titled "The First Polar Bear To Ride A Bike" then the read more link might be "Read More The First Polar Bear To Ride A Bike" or maybe "The First Polar Bear To Ride A Bike" rather than just "Read More" which does little to describe what the article is about or to encourage the visitor to read the rest of the article..

To change the Read More link for a new article which appears on the front page, category blog layout or section blog layout please complete the following.

  1. From the Joomla administrator area select the Add New Article
  2. Enter the title of the article and assign the article to the relevent section and category
  3. Enter some text in the editor to provide visitors with an introduction to the article
  4. Select the Read more button located at the bottom of the Joomla WYSWYG editor to split the article into two sections
  5. Select the Parameters (Advanced) option located to the right of the editor and you will see the option Alternative Read More: text
  6. In The Alternative Read More Field enter the name of the article or add read more then the name of the article
  7. Select the SAVE button and the new read more link will now be updated on the web site.
